ONE – Make Poverty History

The Group of Eight (G8), representing eight of the world’s leading industrialized nations: France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Russia, as well as the European Union, will be meeting for their annual meeting on July 6th.

The ONE Campaign is urging these leaders to:

  • Help the poorest people of the world fight poverty, AIDS and hunger at a cost equal to just ONE percent more of the US budget on a clear timetable.
  • Cancel 100% of the debts owed by the poorest countries.
  • Reform trade rules so poor countries can earn sustainable incomes.

If you live in the United States and believe in this goal, send a letter to President Bush.

Also be sure to watch and/or listen to Live 8 on July 2nd.
10 concerts, 100 artists, a million spectators, 2 billion viewers, and 1 message… To get the 8 leaders of the world’s leading industrialized nations, in that 1 room, to stop 30,000 children dying every single day of extreme poverty.
